Neil’s Background
After Graduating from Leeds University with an honours degree in biology in 2000, Neil moved to Bath to train full time as a Modern Pentathlete. Within 6 months he picked up an injury which required surgery.
Neil was first introduced to The Bowen Technique during rehabilitation from a foot operation and he started receiving regular treatment from Julian Baker, Principle of the European College of Bowen Studies (ECBS). With Julian’s help his recovery was speedy and 6 months later was competing again, getting selected for his first British Team as a result. Over the next 3 years Neil went on to compete for Great Britain at European and World Championships.
Neil has no doubt that Bowen played an important part in his success. During the final 3 years competing, whilst receiving regular Bowen treatments, he didn’t miss a single weeks training through injury, despite training up to 35 hours a week.
Neil had suffered from recurring back problems for 12 years. This also cleared up after receiving Bowen and has not returned since.
After retiring from Pentathlon in summer 2004 Neil trained in the Bowen Technique under the supervision of Julian at the ECBS. Neil is also qualified to treat horses having trained as an Equine Bowen practitioner with Lotty Merry at RFCES.
From Neil’s time as a sportsman he has formed an understanding of the mechanisms of the body, through the muscles, tendons and ligaments and lines of strain exerted on those systems. This first hand experience complements his theoretical understanding learned through University studies, anatomical dissection at several London teaching hospitals and continued training with the ECBS and RFCES.
