Background After Graduating in Biology from Leeds University in 2000, I moved to Bath to train full time as a Modern Pentathlete. Within 6 months I picked up an injury which required surgery. During my rehab I discovered The Bowen Technique and started receiving regular treatment from Julian Baker, Principle of the European College of Bowen Studies. With Julian's help my recovery was speedy and a further 6 months later, I was selected for my first British Team. Over the next 3 years, I went on to compete at European and World Championships for Great Britain . I have no doubt that Bowen played an important part in this; during my final 3 years, whilst receiving regular Bowen treatments I didn't miss a single weeks training through injury, despite training up to 30 hours a week. Before receiving Bowen I had recurring back problems for 12 years, from which I have not been affected since. After retiring from Pentathlon in summer 2004 I trained in the Bowen Technique under the tutorage of Julian Baker and I am now a qualified therapist, through the European College of Bowen Studies. From my time as a sportsman I have learned to be in tune with the working of the body, its muscles and lines of strain, which complements my theoretical understanding learned through my university studies. |
